Unaddressed emotional harm reshapes classrooms, leadership cultures, and organizations.
Across sectors, unresolved trauma surfaces as mistrust, burnout, and disconnection.
Leadership requires more than expertise. Without relational awareness, performance cannot sustain humane organizations.
The Capoethic Method equips leaders with embodied tools to interrupt harmful patterns at their root.
When we cultivate emotional intelligence and compassion, we lay the groundwork for healing, accountability, and repair.

Azmera Hammouri-Davis is a scholar, award-winning interdisciplinary artist, and facilitator whose work bridges embodied cultural practice, ethical inquiry, and organizational leadership.
A Fulbright Creative & Performing Arts Scholar, she conducted fieldwork in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, examining the relational power of Capoeira and poetic language. Her research explores how embodied cultural traditions cultivate resilience, relational intelligence, and ethical accountability within institutions.
Azmera holds a Master’s in Theological Studies from Harvard University and degrees in Visual & Performing Arts and Social Sciences Psychology from the University of Southern California. Her writing has appeared in national and international publications and has been translated into eight languages.
She is the creator of The Capoethic Method®, a leadership framework integrating Capoeira, poetry, and ethics to support educators, public sector leaders, and organizations in building cultures grounded in creativity, care, and responsibility.
Before working with Azmera, I was lost in how to cultivate and develop my relationship to love. After six months, I’ve noticed my perspective shift, I have more clarity in what I am ready for, and I’ve expanded what I believe is possible with tools like suggested books, vision boards, and white-boarding sessions. Her coaching has helped me become truly excited for my future relationship, and I am grateful for my time and space cultivated by Azmera.
I really appreciate the care and intentionality Azmera brought to our space today. In working with her, I have been able to gain confidence in how I approach difficult conversations between the scholars I work with as well as the staff I manage. It’s been incredibly helpful to be able to soundboard different scenarios and possible paths of action. I now know that resolutions can and should look different according to the situation. While this now seems obvious, I was under the impression that in order to be able to call a situation "resolved," everyone involved should feel a sense of closure and ending. That is not the case, and now I know that and have come to a place of acceptance with that. A testament to the life-changing potential of Azmera’s Conflict Resolution Consultation.
Azmera is an expert in organizational leadership, facilitation and implementation. She skillfully helps teams struggling with direction identify best possible actions moving forward that are inclusive of everyone’s ideas, inputs and concerns. Azmera strategically designed and created communication systems that helped build a statewide cohort model of capacity building for non-profit orgs serving vulnerable youth, including over 70 partner organizations and institutions over 3 years. With multiple moving parts, her expertise moved the project forward effectively and efficiently through deep listening and responsive action. Her creative capacity to point out opportunities and follow through make her a great joy to work with.
The Capoethic Method workshop provided invaluable insights into how movement and sound can create connection and foster healing. I learned how to bring joy into the classroom, center student experiences, and co-create learning spaces. The role-plays on conflict resolution and strategies for supporting students in tough systems were especially powerful. The emphasis on play, deep listening, and creating safe learning environments resonated with me, and I’ve already started implementing these principles in my own practice. The Capoethic Method has truly expanded my approach to teaching, and I look forward to using its strategies to promote hope, connection, and growth with my students.
What We Learned and Plan to Apply in Our Practice: 1. The value of applying Capoethic principles in the classroom. 2. Utilizing group energy exercises to foster connection. 3. Incorporating play as a learning tool. 4. Deepening listening to better understand students' needs. 5. Increasing the role of play in daily practice. 6. Embracing TCM values: Peace, practice, play. 7. Creating safe, supportive learning environments where students are encouraged to give their best. 8. Using play as a strategy in moments of tension within the learning space.
Working with Azmera was calming and full of wisdom. Her workshop helped me learn how to seek clarification and not confrontation in conflict resolution. I now know how “I” Statements help with assertive communication. I would love to have this shared with our entire SMASH organization. A testament to the life-changing potential of Azmera’s Conflict Resolution Consultation.
Azmera is a joy to work with because of her embodiment of core principles that help make work more effective, leaving the team energized at the end of a meeting rather than depleted. She is able to name real time what people are saying in a way that validates and builds trust among team members. Her way is subtle and supportive, always encouraging the best thinking, she is always listening and continually lifting up comments or ideas that move the conversation forward. Most remarkably, she leads with an open heart and mind that engenders warmth and trust.
